Overview

Description of Program

The aim of our Youth Host program is to help newcomer and immigrant youth within the Durham school systems and in the community to integrate through friendship and develop their cultural identity in an open and safe environment.

This program works with the Durham District School Board, Durham Catholic District School Board and community agencies to serve youth ages 14-22. In the schools, our youth host workers work alongside social workers, guidance counsellors and ESL instructors to implement the host program specific to each school’s needs.

Some of the special activities we do in the schools include conversation circles, mentoring, providing and bringing awareness to services and resources in the community, building networks and assisting with school functions such as multicultural celebration and talent shows.

Our youth host program has a weekly youth night at the local library. This program provides workshops, information sharing, recreational activities and cultural presentations. For more information please contact our centre.
